MDaemon does not rotate logs

MDaemon 19.0.X does not rotate log files. Despite the settings specified in Setup -> Server settings > Logging > Maintenance > Maximum log file size -> 300000KB log files Mdaemon-SMTP-(in).log, Mdaemon-SMTP-(out).log, Mdaemon-POP3.log and others can be up to 1 Gb and more.

.OLD files never created. There was no similar issue before at 17.5.X version.

This can be an issue on active servers. MDaemon takes priority on processing data over resetting logs. When a period of inactivity occurs (or a restart), the switch/reset normally occurs then.

If this is an issue, I would recommend choosing the "Log everything into separate files based on the date" instead of a single log file and using the archive feature to backup/remove logs older than a specified amount of time.

"Log everything into separate files based on the date" - this solution helps, but many files are created that are difficult to navigate. Single log file much more easy to use.

Perhaps there is a .SEM file or some other way to initiate log rotation? For example just like RESTART.SEM does stops and then starts MDaemon.

When you say difficult to navigate, do you mean the number of log files per day that are generated? There are archiving options in the Maintenance menu that can allow you to archive old logs into individual ZIP files based on the time period last accessed.

http://help.altn.com/mdaemon/en/index.html?log_maintenance.htm

If you are searching for particular SMTP, POP3, or IMAP session, try using the Log View in the Queue and Statistics manager.

http://help.altn.com/mdaemon/en/index.html?queuestats_log_page.htm

Once the log file is loaded, you can view and sort columns to quickly find the session(s) you're looking for. Double click on the entry to bring up the entire log of the session.

I hope this helps.
