Unknown E-Mail Address on this MDaemon System

Hi there,
I have a question about unknown email addresses on a MDaemon server.

If I write to an internal e-mail address via the MDaemon system and the
e-mail address is not known there, I receive a message from the sender
MDaemon @ stating that the e-mail address does not exist.

In the case of external emails, the emails are forwarded to the
postmaster, MDaemon does not inform the sender that the email address
does not exist.

For me, this message from the sender MDaemon @ only works for internal
emails.

I get the emails via POP3 from the provider.
Can it be that this function only works if the mails are delivered
directly to the MDaemon? (without pickup from the external host via POP3)

The simple answer is that you are correct, messages collected via DomainPOP are handled different than messages received via SMTP. Because of the complications of properly parsing and routing these messages and the lack of SMTP envelope information it is not possible or recommended to generate bounces back to the sender when collecting the messages via POP3.

MDaemon handles messages that are accepted for unknown users received via SMTP using the settings at Setup / Server Settings / Unknown mail. You can also configure MDaemon to not accept messages for unknown local users by changing the settings at Security / Security Settings / Relay Control

Messages collected using DomainPOP that are not addressed to any local users are handled based on the configurations at Setup / Server Settings / DomainPOP / Parsing. There is also a setting on the Processing dialog that can impact it.
