Hi there,

Can I use other anti-virus to work with Mdaemon? I found out existing anti-virus come with the server not work well and cause many email send to HOLDING Q. The virus detection also very poor because of virus pattern not up to date (even I run every 1 hour update) and some compress file also not detected the virus inside.

Thank you.

Hi there, We are using latest version 21.0.2 and now I totally stop anti-virus because very annoying that every time...

I tried using the holding queue for detected infections for a long time, it was about 99.9% effective but since this means that your server appears to be "accepting" malware deliveries then you get continuous malware and viruses sent to you because the malware authors believe that they are getting through the AV software..
I reset the system to "refuse to accept messages that are infected" about a month ago and the malware deliveries have dropped from 200+ a day to virtually zero now.
I use the Content Filter to quarantine potential infections e.g.*.img, *.exe, *.bat etc., files that may occasionally get through the AV scans when new malware is released.

Due to frequent emails being sent to HOLDING Q, the virus function in MDaemon has been disabled, despite the fact that the emails are virus-free.

I'd really like to help figure out why this is occurring on your server.

Are you still running version 21.0.2 or have you upgraded to a newer version? If you have upgraded, which version have you upgraded to?

Which AV engine are you currently using?

Do you have a lot of users using IMAP and/or webmail?  If you do, copies of the IMAP and webmail logs would also be helpful.

I understand that some of the mail is private and cannot be shared, maybe you can cause the issue to occur with a test message that can be shared with me? If you can or if it happens with a message that can be shared, it would be really helpful for troubleshooting, if I could get a copy of the MSG file that was placed into the holding queue, along with a copy of the inbound, smtp, routing, and antivirus logs that show the message being processed. I need a copy of the .MSG from the holding queue though, a copy from a users sent items folder will not help to track the issue down.  Also, a copy of MDaemon's system log for the day the issue occurred and if you are using ClamAV, a copy of the ClamD log.
You can send them to me privately at arron.caruth@mdaemon.com.
