problem trying to use APOP with DomainPOP

I am trying to configure mdaemon 21 to pull from a remote, dovecot server using POP3 with APOP auth. It is not working, and at the remote I see messages that "plaintext authentication is disabled". I am guessing that I need to set up something else in order to get mdaemon to actually use APOP. Meanwhile, I hope that it was not sending an unencrypted name and password...

Does the dovecot server support APOP and MD-5?

We'd need to review the DomainPOP logs to verify what's occurring during the connection.

If dynamic authentication via Active Directory is enabled or the user passwords are being stored with irreversible encryption (which is recommended), then APOP isn't going to work as it requires passwords to be viewable.

A better alternative would be to connect securely over SSL/TLS and use the AUTH command. It won't matter if the password is submitted in plain text if the connection is encrypted.
