Windows socket errors (or "Winsock") errors are network communications errors. They are not caused by MDaemon, but they can impair MDaemon's performance by interrupting network connections between MDaemon and email clients or other mail servers.

We have a knowledge base article on winsock errors here:

KB 104 Winsock Error Descriptions
  • https://www.altn.com/Support/KnowledgeBase/KnowledgeBaseResults?Number=104

Winsock errors can happen for a variety of reasons.

I notice that in the SMTP session that you provided the socket error during the TLS negotiation.

Do the winsock error only occur during the TLS negotiation with the receiving servers?

Does this winsock error occur during the TLS negotiation with every server which it attempts TLS session negotiation with?

Or does it only occur with one receiving server?

From the MDaemon online "Help" file
  • http://help.altn.com/mdaemon/en/index.html?ssl_mdaemon.htm

SMTP server sends mail using STARTTLS when possible

Click this option if you want MDaemon to attempt to use the STARTTLS extension for every SMTP message it sends. If a server to which MDaemon is connecting doesn't support STARTTLS then the message will be delivered normally without using SSL. Use the STARTTLS White List if you wish to prevent the use of STARTTLS for certain domains.

If you disable the option above, does the winsock error you describe stop occurring?
