Hi

Did an in place upgrade from 19.5.5 to 20.0.3, went fine, it didn't restart the program though, so restart the server (2016 Standard), everything is installed but the MDaemon service nevers starts (set to Auto), it all looks fine.

If the service is run manually, the webservice never starts but shows the service running, the only way to get it work is to run the desktop application.

Is this a bug in v20.0.3? the service is in place and set to auto but never runs and if it is run manually doesnt actual run MDaemon.

Many Thanks

What does the Windows Event log say is happening when you try to start the MDaemon service?

What does the MDaemon system log show when you try to start the server?

Do you get any errors on the screen when you try to start the MDaemon service?

Hi, i will need to check this overnight as its a highly used server in the day.

When i start the service it doesnt fail, it runs and shows as running in the services control screen, its just "not" running if that makes sense....

As for event logs i will need to test that when they dont need the server.

Since the service doesn’t fail to start, you probably won’t find anything helpful in the Windows Event log.

MDaemon’s system log might have something helpful though.

After the service starts, is there an MDaemon.exe process showing up in task manager?

Can you telnet to MDaemon on port 25 after the service starts?

What exactly is not running?  Is the MDaemon.exe process not listed in task manager?  Can you not connect to the mail ports?  Or something else entirely? Please describe what you mean by not running.

I believe we have it working, have run over the steps below:
- Downloaded MDaemon v20.0.3 from the website and installed, restarted, NO FIX
- No postmaster@ and abuse@ email addresses, added to the alias list, NO FIX
- Checked the service, LOG ON was set to Local System account, we changed to the local administrator with the correct password, restarted the server FIXED.

So was something changed in v20.0.3 that requires the server to run as a local user (administrator) for it to run correctly?

No we did not change anything in 20.0.3 to require that it run as a local user.

If you set the service back to running as LocalSystem do you continue to have issues?

Hi

I cant play with this install now its working, i dont want to risk it failing now its working. However using the logic i needed to fix it, then yes i assume it will not run as local service....

Are you aware of any settings through Windows that needs to be confirmed that will stop MDaemon running as a user local service?

The only thing I can think of that would prevent MDaemon from running as local system is if MDaemon requires access to resources that are not on the local machine, or if the permissions for the LocalSystem account have been modified.
