Hello,
I'm a very old time user of MDaemon (since small one digit major versions), but after living mostly on beta versions for years, our server was left at 12.5.8. We are today renewing (actually purchasing a new license with 2 years maintenance because our old count of users is not meaningful at all today).
The server VM running the old instance (12.5.8 !) has just been upgraded from Server 2008 R2 to Server 2016 and 12.5.8 still runs nicely (except WebAdmin, but that's just a transient issue, so I don't worry).
This topic is about seeking recommendation on how to properly upgrade to 19.0 (in 64 bits) without too much stupid mistakes.
Should the upgrade be split in some phases? Like first upgrade to this intermediate version, then 19.0?
Or could a straight upgrade from 12.5.8 (32 bits) to 19.0 (64 bits) go quite nicely?
Should the new key from the new purchase first be activated into the 12.5.8 setup and then go through the update menu item from the inside the software itself?
Or can I run the installer for 19.0, let it upgrade (will it ask for the new license during the setup)?
Are there well-known things to pay attention to, not to stumble on them?
The setup is rather simple (no IIS in the way), using WorldClient and WebAdmin through their self-http server.
If you have some pointer to instructions for upgrading from such an old version?
There will of course be usual backups before, including VM snapshots seconds before, and manual backup/archive of MD current installation.
Oh side note: the old installation was located in a custom folder like C:\MDAEMON\...
Will the new installation over this old-one keep that as OK or do the binaries go to C:\Program Files?
Sorry for asking such basic questions, but I have had my attention away from MDaemon for some years. It just worked.

Hello Oliver, We recommend doing a gradual upgrade since there have been numerous changes...

I wanted to say thank you for your answer.
It happens that I moved quicker and before reading you.
Went straight from 12.5.8 to 19.0.3 (32 bits), fixed some minor issues, then to 19.0.3 (64 bits).
All look fine.
Again thank you.
