ActiveSync - Attachments not downloading

FYI - This has been happening across several MDaemon versions including v21.5.1.

Scenario - Using same email client on Android devices. Email format type: MIME. Send email with attachment from Office365 account to MDaemon account. The attachment is not included on the receiving device. Have to select 'Redownload email' in the email client. Once this is done, the attachment is included. This happens only when the email w/attachment is sent to an MDaemon account.

This issue was reported to the email client author (9Folders).

Below is their response:

According to the log, you have set two accounts. One is MDaemon server (EAS 14.1) and the other is Exchange clone. Two servers are not genuine Exchange servers. Anyway, looking over the log, your mail server(MDaemon) is responding abnormally to the ActiveSync's commands.
The above behavior is no problem in Microsoft Exchange Server or other Exchange-compatible servers.
Please, ask the Mail Server development team you are using. This error message spec is as follow.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/openspecs/exchange_server_protocols/ms-ashttp/f1dda4f4-5a06-4761-8ae6-38189eb649a8

01-20 12:43:41.897|I|AttachmentDownloadThread|-1|EAS|NONE attachments to auto download.

01-20 12:43:40.350|D|SyncEngineServiceImpl|1|EAS|IEmailService.nxFetchBody: 1, 11317
This error is not allowed in EAS 12.x. But your server Activesync spec doesn't seem to support the attachments downloading.
The Content-Type header indicates the format of the data sent in the request body. When the request body for a command is in WBXML format, the Content-Type header value MUST be set to either "application/vnd.ms-sync.wbxml", or the shortened string "application/vnd.ms-sync". The shortened string is not allowed by protocol versions 2.5 and 12.0.
So attachments downloading of your server doesn't support the conversion. Status: 14 error of Activesync is the conversion error. Please contact your server admin about the issue.

What does MDaemon's AirSync log show is happening?
I don’t see any errors. You are most likely going to have to install the 9Folders client on an Android device and do some internal testing. To reiterate, I have two Androids and both have the 9Folders client installed. I am testing a couple of different email servers including an Office365 account. I never experience the “missing attachment” issue with the other servers/accounts, only with the MDaemon account.
Can you post the entire session from the MDaemon log that shows the error occurring?
I didn’t find any errors or any indication that an issue was encountered in any MD log file.
What version of 9Folders are you using?
    4.9.2b (1409220)
What version of the AS protocol is being used?
v14.1 was listed in the MD ActiveSync client details . I removed the account from the 9folders client and removed the client from the MDaemon ActiveSync settings. I re-added the account to the 9folders client and it’s now using the 16.1 EAS protocol. I was hoping this would fix the issue but it did not. I’m getting the same results.
What versions of the AS protocol does the client support?
I can’t find that info specifically listed anywhere but 9folders appears to support all protocols. 9folders description states: Exchange Server 2003 SP2/SP3 and above, SMS sync (Exchange 2010 and higher) and page 29 of the user guide states that you can add an attachment to a calendar event so long as the account supports EAS 16+. Since removing and re-adding the account in the 9Folders client, I now have the option to add an attachment to a calendar event so it seems the client does support 16.1. However, the calendar attachments do NOT sync with MDaemon. It doesn’t matter if I attach a file to a calendar event in WorldClient or by using the 9Folders client. The attached files do not sync so files that were attached in WorldClient do not display in 9Folders and files that were attached to a calendar event in 9Folders do not display in WorldClient but the calendar event itself does sync. I tested calendar event file attachments with the Office365 account and it works as it should.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to get the 9Folders email client to work on an android.  It gets stuck during the setup process.  I was able to install it on an iPhone and was unable to reproduce the issue you are having.

We'd be happy to look into this further, but we are going to need you to provide a copy of the message that you have the issue with along with ActiveSync debug and xml logs that show the email client retrieving the message from the server.

Thanks,
