Hello,

I have just installed mdaemon v20 on a Windows Server 2019 box. Outbound emails seem to go fine except for anything to @yahoo.com or @yahoo.co.uk, which are all rejected:

Tue 2020-08-18 15:19:47.665: 02: <-- 421 4.7.0 [TSS04] Messages from ??.??.??.?? temporarily deferred due to user complaints - 4.16.55.1; see https://help.yahoo.com/kb/postmaster/SLN3434.html

The external firewall blocks inbound port 25 from all external IP addresses so there is no way anybody is using mdaemon to send spam and causing user complaints, and the server isn't sending particularly many messages (up to 2000 a day). Some of the affected emails have been in the Retry queue for nearly 24 hours. I don't understand what is wrong or what to do to fix. Can somebody advise?

Hello Aaron

Thanks for your reply. I have looked at the URL provided but the information if not helpful, it doesn't define what is "unusual" activity and it does not state how long until mail is accepted again - just to wait 4 hours and try again. There is no information about how to contact them concerning the issue. While this is happening messages are just building up and and I am totally helpless. It's really frustrating!

I completely understand how frustrating it can be, especially when you can’t get the details you need to resolve the issue.  Unfortunately, I don’t have the information either, I wish I did, it would make it much easier for you.

About the only thing I can suggest is to route your mail destined for yahoo.com through a smart host or another mail server.    You can use the mxcache.dat file to do this, basically just add an entry for yahoo.com that points it to the host name of the other mail server that is setup to accept mail from you and deliver it to yahoo.com.  The entry would look something like this:

Yahoo.com 001 domain3.example.com username password

Once the entry is added save the file and restart MDaemon.

The entries in the MXCache.dat file are given priority over DNS records so MDaemon will try to deliver the messages based on this entry instead of based on DNS.

The only other suggestion would be to try to contact yahoo directly to see if they can provide additional details.
